Celebrating a milestone...
This little lakeside session was part of Fika's fall styled retreat, organized by The Finding Co. We were able to work with Mandee & Ryan as they celebrated a year of marriage and modeled for this intimate anniversary shoot.
We took our time on the water, allowing the couple to just be themselves, have time to talk and laugh, and simply enjoy each other in this picturesque setting of a lake on the mountainside. We tried to capture the moments as they came with little posing, only guiding our couple at key points. The lesson of this shoot was to look for the details, create intentional images that told a story, hone in on the overall narrative of their relationship and time doing an activity they loved together.
It was also important to try new techniques and get creative! I enjoyed trying my hand at double exposure photos which I don't often get a chance to slow down and do so intentionally, especially on tight timeline wedding days.
Keep the moments moving...
After a romantic paddle around the pond, Mandee and Ryan dried off and set up a little picnic for themselves in the nearby field. Mandee, also being a photographer, brought out a poloroid camera to capture some sweet moments of her own while we documented it all. They took time to snuggle, read poetry to each other, and mimic a bike ride and a gorgeous, yet slightly unusable, vintage bike haha. The effect was perfect nonetheless and we loved watching them take such joy in each other throughout the session!
I brought out my prism for this portion of the shoot and had fun creating different magical effects in the images. These small little details and flares help to add a sense of romantic whimsy to the session and is one of my favorite things to play around with.
